On Friday, September 8, the City of Vancouver announced the four finalists for the city’s annual book award.
Now in its 29th year, the award “recognizes authors of excellence of any genre who contribute to the appreciation and understanding of Vancouver’s history, unique character, or the achievements of its residents.” The books can be written and published anywhere, but must be evocative of Vancouver.

- Invisible Dead by Sam Wiebe (Random House)
- Pandas on the Eastside by Gabrielle Prendergast (Orca Book Publishers)
- Susan Point: Spindle Whorl compiled by Grant Arnold, Ian M. Thom, Susan Point, Kathryn Bunn-Marcuse, Thomas Cannell, Myrtle Mckay, and William McLennan (Black Dog Publishing)
The Book Award is presented as part of the Mayor’s Arts Awards, which take place on October 11, 2017.
