Happy Labour Day long weekend! We hope everyone around the province (and beyond) is having a great weekend. With record-breaking temperatures, it’s the perfect time to escape in the shade with a book. And we’ve got some great suggestions with this week’s events.
Tomorrow, on Tuesday, September 5, landlubbers in Victoria can join authors Michael L. Hadley and Anita Hadley at Bolen Books for the launch of their maritime anthology, Spindrift: A Canadian Book of the Sea, featuring some of Canada’s most significant literary voices.
SFU’s The Writer’s Studio hosts their monthly reading series on Thursday, September 7. Featuring Monica Meneghetti, Patrik Sampler, Kirsten Pendreigh, Clara Cristofaro, A.J. Devlin, Jano Klimas, and Diana Joy.
Heidi Redl will be in Victoria on Saturday, September 9, talking about life with MS and her book, A Quiet Roar.
The September edition of the Dead Poets Reading Series on Sunday, September 10 is particularly special as it will feature the work of three poets of vital importance to the BC writing community, all of whom we lost in 2015—Peter Culley, Elise Partridge, and Jamie Reid. There will be an after-reception with book sales.
Island-dwellers need not miss out on poetry this Sunday, September 10: Join the City of Victoria’s Poet Laureate Yvonne Blomer for a free afternoon of poetry readings, creative writing, and an open mic. This free event is a prelude to the launch of Refugium: Poems for the Pacific (Caitlin Press) edited by Blomer.
